I’m a 28 year old writer from Canada who loves video games and all kinds of digital media. I started HamBehemoth because I wanted a place to write down my thoughts on digital media and our life in the digital age. I grew up alongside the rapid evolution of computers from the 90s into the 00s and I’ve always been passionate about the emerging technology and entertainment that has surrounded that growth.
I’ve written previously at length about video game culture for the now defunct Tumblr blog PeepGaming, but I’ve been playing games and thinking about their impact on me for as long as I can remember. I’ve also written sporadically about film, TV, and music on various blogs over the years! The majority of my time at the University of Northern BC was actually spent studying critical analysis of film and TV.
I also write a lot of fiction in my spare time! I’m currently working through the second draft of my first fantasy novel (in a series!) and I’m working on some short stories outside of that. I’m really excited about them as I’ve been writing fiction since I learned how to put words to paper.
I’ve always been writing, but I’ve never been able to do it for a living. I’ve worked a lot of jobs between high school and today, lots of manual labour type stuff and lots of working with people, but I’ve been writing the whole time and it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. Aside from video games, TV, and film, I also follow politics to a certain degree and have a lot of interest in space science and emerging technologies. I am a politically left-leaning Canadian and that forms, I think, an important part of who I am.
You know, sometimes your friends just say things like ‘Behemoth Ham’ when they’re making anecdotes about crafting in MMORPGs and they kind of stick with you.
